This week, I talk with Elizabeth Mikotowicz, whose early twenties were marred by unimaginable violence. Severely beaten by her then-boyfriend, she found herself hospitalized. Doctors prescribed opioids for the pain, unwittingly leading her into addiction. Later, she faced arrest and a 37-month federal prison sentence—a turning point that allowed her to break free from addiction but also exposed the harsh realities of the system.
Now, Elizabeth is a fierce advocate on a mission. She sheds light on the rampant abuse, rape, and misconduct within prisons. Her courageous call-out extends to institutions like Cumberland County Jail, Danbury Federal Correctional Institute, Alderson FPC, and Long Creek Youth Development Center.
